What is Hijab?
Hijab in literal form means a partition which separates two things; a curtain; in modern times used to describe of form of women’s dress. Hijab also means veiling. A veil (hijab) is legitimately defined as the dress that covers the whole body of the woman. The hijab should be long, loose and plain not defining her shape. The hijab has been prescribed for women to block the road to sin. Hijab in today’s world is an essential for every woman. Hijab is a modest way of dressing. The hijab has been in the media on a regular basis in recent times. This has created the know-how of the hijab for Muslims and non-Muslims alike as people tend to do some research on the hijab. The hijab could also be a form of unifying the world. Something as simple as a hijab has provided a platform for communication. The hijab is for women to cover everything that is forbidden for her to expose. Hijab has also become the central part of Islamic and mainstream fashion. The pashmina hijab is part of the mainstream fashion and has been part of Islamic hijab fashion for a long time. The netted hijab cap has also become a mainstream fashion. The pashmina hijab was originally made to be worn underneath the hijab to ensure the hair under the hijab was fully covered. hijab varies in style, size, materials, textures and designs. The variations of the hijab depends on the geographical location of the muslimah wearing the hijab, the weather conditions, the occasion, practicality and affordability. A businesswoman in Tokyo would rather wear a satin hijab in dark colours due to the heavy lighting around whereas a sister who works in London would prefer a one piece cotton hijab during the summer. Personal taste with the hijab also matters. Hijab styles also vary according to the countries where the hijab originated. One such example is the Kuwaiti hijab. As the name suggests this hijab originated in Kuwait. The Kuwaiti hijab was first made purely in cotton and without any liningon the hijab. This hijab was used by women who did a lot of travelling. This hijab has since been modified after crossing Kuwait’s borders. Another example would be the hijab shayla. The hijab shayla was originally used in cold areas such as some Chinese and European cities. The hijab shaylas were longer than usual and could be wrapped around the head and the top half of the body. The shayla hijab is now available in different sizes. The smaller shayla hijab is worn over jilbabs and jalabiyas in a matching or contrasting manner. There are several such examples available in the hijab world. There is a hijab rumour that goes around once in a while that wearing a hijab cause’s loss of hair. This is very untrue as the hijab does not cause any loss of hair what so ever. The hijab can be worn in several colours and can be exciting to try several hijab colours. The world of the hijab can spice up anybody’s life after a person realises the value of modesty a hijab creates. Wear the hijab. The hijab is the way forward in life.
Types of the Hijab
The hijab comes in many different types. Let us look at each one briefly.
Kuwaiti hijab : is one of the types of hijab. This hijab is basically a hijab stitched all round to form a tube worn over your head until the shoulders. In the vertical area at the hijab neck there is a long piece of cloth attached which is loose on the other end. The loose or second portion is wrapped around the main portion of the hijab.
One Piece Hijab : is another type of hijab. A one piece hijab is basically a hijab in the form of a tube that is worn over the head until the neck and shoulders. A one piece hijab is usually made of cotton and is the most practical and basic form of a handy hijab. This kind of hijab is probably one of the most well known in the hijab world.
Two Piece Hijab : This kind of hijab is divided into two so that the first portion of the hijab is worn over your head like a bandana but is still in the form of a tube. The second portion is worn over the first upto the shoulders. The two piece hijab creates a tighter fit than the one piece.
Long Hijab : is exactly as its name, long. This hijab is used to cover just head area normally except for the larger sizes that are used to cover the top half of the body. The long hijab is more stylish in that this hijab can be manoeuvred into different styles.
Square Hijab : is also another common form of hijab used commonly in eastern Europe and Asia. This hijab is folded across into a triangular shape and placed over the head. The hijab is then pinned below the neck with a hijab pin.
Pashmina hijab : is probably the most popular hijab in the mainstream market. The pashmina hijab is also used as a mainstream fashion. Pashmina hijab can be worn with abayas, jilbabs or ladies suits.
